In an interview, Mariah Carey reminds the world of the importance of the Virgin Mary.

You’ve probably heard the Christmas hit, All I Want for ChristmasIs You by Mariah Carey. The pop song that was released in 1994 is still a massive hit today — in fact, in the UK it came in as the number one Christmas song in 2020. And thanks to the song’s success, Carey was dubbed the “Queen of Christmas.”

However, this might come as a surprise to many: While talking on a British radio show — the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show — the superstar spoke of her feelings about her Christmas title, and whom she felt it should be attributed to, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

“…I just want to humbly say that I don’t consider myself that. I’m someone that loves Christmas, that happened to be blessed to write All I Want For Christmas Is You. And a lot of other Christmas songs. And let’s face it, you know everybody’s faith is what it is. But to me, Mary is the Queen of Christmas.”

In the interview she went on to talk about her latest projects, including her new Christmas song, Fall in Love at Christmas that she started writing this past summer. The singer continued to surprise her fans by revealing that when filming the process there was less of her usual glamorous self, in fact, she was “in pajamas for most of the time.”

The 52-year-old wanted to show a more realistic side of herself to her fans, and to show that she’s not always the diva she’s made out to be. It’s a refreshing move by Carey, and makes this Christmas project all the more meaningful — especially as her 7-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, are featured in the video.

While it will be interesting for her fans to see what she produces next, it’s truly wonderful to hear a person whose name is so synonymous with modern day Christmas music remind everybody of what the season is all about, and put the Virgin Mary at the forefront — where she belongs!
