The Hochman family of Brooklyn, New York, has gained a lot of attention over the past few years by sharing their nightly guitar practice sessions and frequent concerts with fans via Instagram and Facebook.

Known as “The Quarantined Quartet,” the band formed on March 21, 2020 and is made up of Elysa and Jason Hochman, both professional musicians who run the New York Guitar Academy in Manhattan, and their school-aged sons, Joshua and Noah.

With over 100K combined followers on Facebook and Instagram, the family wows fans with classical guitar favorites but also a few of their own original pieces.

“Before the quarantine,” Alysa explained in an interview with Inside Edition, “We never had time to practice together before. This has really helped us bond.”

Joshua and Noah expressed their approval in a similar interview with ABC News about how the daily practice has helped them grow in skill and love for music exponentially: “Before the quarantine,” Noah explained, “I was at a [skill level of] 4 out of 10; now I’m a 9.” Joshua concurred, smiling and nodding enthusiastically with his brother.

The Hochmans’ great accomplishment of forming a quartet was conceived in an unprecedented time of uncertainty.

Back in March 2020, as schools were shutting down and Elysa and Jason were forced to work virtually, they instituted a family commitment to practice together for at least one hour every single day. Fortunately for their growing audience, it’s a commitment they’ve kept long after the lockdowns, delighting listeners with a celebration of 600 straight days of practice.
