A man tried to blow up the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 1921, but it was miraculously untouched by the attack.

The miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe has remained intact over the past 500 years, even when it has been deliberately attacked.

The Catholic News Agency offers a brief summary of an event that took place onNovember 14, 1921, and is posted in the basilica in Mexico.

“Around 10:30 in the morning, a dynamite bomb went off hidden among the flowers. The damages were at the steps of the altar, which are made of marble, the brass candlesticks, and the Sacred Image of our Crucified Lord, that fell to the ground and was left bent.”

The bent crucifix is now known as “Santo Cristo del Atentado,” or “Holy Christ of the Attack.”

Yet, the glass protecting the tilma of Juan Diego was miraculously untouched.

This 100th anniversary is being commemorated with a special Jubilee Year, according to Agenzia Fides.

Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, Archbishop of Mexico, blessed and opened the Holy Door of the Basilica of Guadalupe on Sunday, November 14. … With the opening of the Holy Door, therefore, an extraordinary Jubilee Year begins, which will close on November 20, 2022, on the solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe.
