Laudato Si’ Movement | 10/28/21
An initiative of the Movement "Laudato Si'", created to promote the implementation of the Pope's encyclical on the common home.

With only a few days left before the opening of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, the Movement “Laudato Si'” has launched a worldwide campaign to collect signatures urging the international representatives at the summit tu accept the integral human ecology proposed by Pope Francis.

The petition (thecatholicpetition.org), entitled “Healthy Planet, Healthy People”, takes as its starting point the human impact of the pandemic and, with the Pope, states: “We know that one does not emerge from a crisis the same: We emerge either better or worse… We need to ensure that the environment is cleaner, purer and that it is conserved. We must care for nature so that nature may care for us.”

A proposal inspired by “Laudato Sì”.

The campaign is accompanied by a letter addressed to the participants in the UN summit to present some of the demands that Pope Francis has put forward to representatives of various countries and international institutions.

Beyond some requests of a technical nature, which depend on the information available at a scientific level, the document aims to propose an ecology at the service of the human being, according to the biblical and Christian inspiration presented in Pope Francis’ encyclical “Laudato Si'”.

“With Pope Francis leading us, we pray that you and all political leaders throughout the world, who are tasked with the duty to make life-saving decisions in this critical year, will bring us out better from the COVID-19 crisis towards an equitable common home for all life, for generations to come,” states the letter that the “Laudato Si'” movement has sent to representatives of the international community.

“We have an opportunity like no other. It is our responsibility as Catholics to lift up the voices of the most vulnerable and advocate on their behalf. Let’s support Pope Francis’ plea. We must act now,”  underlines the petition.

A Movement born with the support of Pope Francis

The Movement “Laudato Sì” emerged in 2015 with the express support of Pope Francis, to promote educational projects “on care for our common home,” the objective of the encyclical of the same name published in the same year.

The petition is addressed to all political leaders participating in the United Nations Climate Change Conference, to be held from November 1 to 12 in the city of Glasgow, Scotland.

The meeting was originally scheduled for November 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused it to be postponed.
