Jesus didn’t often single out groups of people for criticism or condemnation. But he sternly warned his followers against those he called “lukewarm” — neither hot nor cold about faith. He didn’t want people to be apathetic, or to have a “meh” attitude towards God’s gifts. Jesus wanted us to be on “fire” with his love.
Yet, sometimes we need a little push to make that happen.
Here is a prayer that asks God for help in deepening your faith.
Lord God, deepen our faith,
strengthen our hope,
enkindle our love;
and so that we may obtain what you promise
make us love what you command.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
