The Year of St. Joseph is nearing its end, but the Knights of Columbus are keeping the celebration alive. On October 10, the Knights released a new documentary, St. Joseph: Our Spiritual Father, which explores the role that Joseph played as Jesus’ adoptive father and the spiritual father of the Church. The documentary is currently running on ABC for the next six weeks, with ample opportunity for all to view the hour-long feature.
After the arduous, pandemic-ridden year of 2020, Pope Francis declared 2021 as the Year of St. Joseph. Throughout 2021, the pope encouraged all Catholics to adopt St. Joseph as a model of Catholic faith and a father figure to be emulated. Now, the documentary comes to cap off the year, illuminating one of the most important yet obscured people of the bible.
In the description of the preview, featured above, the Knights of Columbus write:
While the Gospel has not preserved any of his words, his actions have resounded through the ages. Joseph of Nazareth stands out as the model par excellence of Christian virtue, a brilliant example of obedience to God and trust in Divine Providence.
St. Joseph: Our Spiritual Father is everything one could want from a high-budget documentary. Interviews with scholarly experts are interspersed between beautiful scenes of biblical reenactments. Viewers will hear testimonies from contemporary people with devotion to St. Joseph, as well as learning historical perspectives on the foster father of Christ.
Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly said of the film:
“St. Joseph is often considered the silent, humble witness of the Bible. The truth is that he models for each one of us the importance of prayer, obedience and courage in our lives. I encourage everyone to watch this documentary as a way to go to St. Joseph, increase their devotion to him and allow his example to inspire us in our many challenges.”
Thanks to a deal with ABC, St. Joseph: Our Spiritual Father will be running over the course of the next six weeks. A complete listing of the airing schedule can be found at the Knights of Columbus website.
