Two days from now, we’ll celebrate a holiday that’s not well-known anymore but has an amazing history. The feast of St. Michael and the Archangels is also known as Michaelmas, and was historically commemorated with fanfare.
Michaelmas honors the Archangels, especially St. Michael, who is best known for fighting back against Satan and casting him into Hell. The feast day was traditionally an important turning point in the calendar, marking the end of summer. It was a day to enjoy harvest bounties and ask God for the strength to imitate St. Michael.
