One of the greatest blessings in life is having older generations who inspire us along our own paths. One elderly couple recently showed us the joy that 50 years of married life can bring.
In a post on Love What Matters, a photographer named Marla Michel Must shared a story about her elderly neighbors, who’d given her a glimpse into their past and present lives together.
Having watched the couple over a 10-year period, Must shared how they went for regular walks together, arm-in-arm. As they grew older, their steps slowed, but still they held on tightly to each other. When Must approached them to have a chat, they shared with her that they were about to celebrate 50 years of marriage, after meeting at Oakland University in 1969.
After their meeting, Must also shared how she’d “witnessed chivalry in its finest form as he walked around to open her car door and made sure she was situated safely in the passenger seat.” A simple act of protection and devotion.
During their chat, the photographer took the opportunity to offer the couple a photo session. The loving wife said her husband would come in his blue suit, “that he was very handsome, and surely she is the luckiest woman in the world.” She turned up in her wedding dress and veil that she’d worn half a century before.
And the results Must shared are not only adorable, but inspiring, and a reminder that love has no age. In fact, love can endure and grow deeper, if we hold on tight!
