With increasingly disturbing news coming out of Afghanistan, many of us are concerned for the women and children left in the hands of the Taliban. In fact, just recently the Daily Mail reported that a woman and her two children were trampled on at Kabul airport trying to escape the new regime.
Human rights’ organizations are obviously anxious that very young girls will be forced into marriage with Taliban soldiers. And Afghan women have not only lost their freedom, but are living in fear as to what may happen to their husbands and children.
While our hands might feel tied, we can do practical things and support charities trying to re-home refugees, or reach out in prayer for some heavenly help. Throughout the Church’s history there have been some female saints who’ve gone through horrific ordeals with such bravery, and yet have still managed to find holiness. So look to these powerful intercessors as we pray for those in Afghanistan.
