Prayers continue: No update on Cardinal Burke, 6 days in hospital

Kathleen N. Hattrup - published on 08/20/21

The family said to have "great confidence" in the care he's receiving.

There is no official update on the health of Cardinal Raymond Burke, six days after he was admitted to hospital with Covid, and placed on a ventilator.

The 73-year-old prelate has attracted the attention of the secular media, which has characterized him as an anti-vaxxer now suffering with the disease.

See more on that here:

The cardinal, who is patron of the Order of Malta, was hospitalized on August 14 and placed on a ventilator, after confirming on Twitter three days earlier that he had tested positive for Covid.

Last word on August 17th

On August 17, an update at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which Burke founded in his native La Crosse, Wisconsin, reported that he was in “serious, but stable condition.”

It assured:

His family, who with a team of doctors, is responsible for all medical decisions while the Cardinal remains sedated and on a medical ventilator, has great confidence in the care he is receiving. The Cardinal has received the Sacraments from priests nearby to him. There are several relics in his room.

His Twitter and Facebook accounts posted a summarized version of that same update some hours later:

St. Rocco is one of a countless number of saints who served in times of a pandemic.

Only significant updates

The update at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe also made this announcement:

The Cardinal’s family has also requested that only updates of significant changes in His Eminence’s condition be posted on the authorized platforms.

It can be expected that the hospital stay could be prolonged, as this is common with Covid patients.
