Being an Olympian this year in Tokyo wasn’t easy with Covid restrictions preventing loved ones from accompanying athletes, and the usual high amount of pressure. But one anonymous man in Japan understood that and decided to do something to encourage the athletes.
The man started his inspiring Olympic mission when the athletes first arrived by standing outside the village with a welcome sign on July 22, according to TimeOut. From there, as the focus on medal count became apparent, he changed his sign to say:
Good Morning Athletes! Even if you don’t get a medal, you’re still the BEST!!! So believe in yourself!
He reportedly arrived with his message at 7.15 a.m. every morning, and stood for a couple of hours with his sign. Every time a busload of athletes went by he’d hold up his sign to offer a little inspiration.
