The Olympic Games remain a unique human experience, as they bring together people from all over the world in a single place.
This presents a great opportunity to compete in a spirit of respect and to recognize the humanity of each athlete, opening doors to dialogue.
Pope Benedict XVI saw this, too, and prayed in 2012 for the Olympic Games. This prayer can continue to be used today, asking God to bring similar blessings upon the current Olympics.
Let us pray that in accordance with God’s will [that] the [Olympic Games] will be a true experience of brotherhood among the earth’s peoples.
I pray that, in the spirit of the Olympic Truce, the good will generated by this international sporting event may bear fruit, promoting peace and reconciliation throughout the world.
