The sovereign demonstrates the gift of life.

This past April the world witnessed a diminished Queen Elizabeth II as she watched her husband of 73 years laid to rest. Many were concerned how she’d cope without “her rock” by her side. Yet recent photos of the British sovereign have shown her looking more radiant and busier than ever.

In the space of a week, the nonagenarian has carried out a tour of Scotland, attended multiple horse shows, and play host to the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel — not to mention she’s also been seeing to her regular affairs of state. Additionally, it was only three weeks ago that the sovereign took center stage at the G7 summit and broke the ice with world leaders by cracking a joke. These days, one thing everybody seems to be noticing is her huge smile.

There has been some conjecture in the press that she’s fulfilling a promise to her dying husband to embrace the time she has left. However, while we’ll never know if indeed there was such words said between them, Elizabeth II is giving a wonderful lesson to us all. She’s not just demonstrating how each day is a gift, but that even at the ripe old age of 95, it’s never too late to adapt and live life to the full the best way you can. The queen is welcoming the support of her extended family as they step in to accompany her on her engagements, and she’s doing it all with grace, courage, and humor.
