Martyrdom of St. Denis

There are patron saints for nearly everything under the sun, from the internet to oversleeping.

In the Catholic Church saints are often assigned various patronages, different areas of life with which they have some connection.

The faithful then seek the intercession of that saint for that particular area.

One curious aspect of this tradition is the fact that many saints are given strange and unusual patronages. There is always a reason for it, but at first glance it may be difficult to see the connection.

While it may seem bizarre, it reinforces the point that God desires to sanctify every aspect of our life, even our time on the internet!

Here is a slideshow that highlights 12 patron saints of unusual things.
