Twins are often a form of fascination for many. Perhaps it’s the beauty of seeing two people bonded in the womb, and the way that unique bond continues throughout their lives.
A recent story of twin sisters, Caroline Giguere and Candice Hipp, giving birth just minutes apart on May 5, is a fine example of this incredible bond.
The two women from South Carolina discovered they were due to give birth at the same time. With both babies expected to make their way into the world this week, the sisters decided to induce the births last week, in the same hospital, Prisma Health Patewood, and with the same gynecologist.
What the pair might not have expected is that their OB/GYN, Dr. Mary Beck of Piedmont, would be kept busy running from one room to the next as the women went into labor at the same time. Thankfully for the doctor, the twins were in neighboring rooms and kept in touch and supported each other through FaceTime.
“We talked multiple times,” Giguere shared with WYFF. “We got to the point of ‘How far along are you? Well, how far along are you?”*
The timing was quite remarkable, with Giguere giving birth to baby Edson “Gray” at 4:43 p.m., and Candice delivering Louis Springs just 35 minutes later, and with only two ounces difference between the two cousins, who weighed 7 pounds 11 and 7 pounds 9.
With the twins living across the street from each other, the baby cousins will no doubt grow up to share an unbreakable bond, too.
