Indian couple marry in full PPE clothing

INDIAN WEDDING

Their wedding was perhaps one of the least glamorous during the pandemic, but was so meaningful.

With the number of COVID deaths surpassing 200,000 in India, getting married is low on the list for most couples at the moment. However, one bride and groom decided that love should most certainly conquer all.

The groom had actually tested positive for COVID but still wanted to go ahead with the marriage. When authorities hears of the plans they went to stop the ceremony. Thankfully after hearing the couple’s pleas to get married, plans were put in place for them to marry as safely as possible.

The video of the newlyweds, reported by the BBC, shows a more unusual ceremony. The bride and groom were willing to forego the usual beautiful wedding outifts, wearing their PPE clothing instead. But, the all important garland worn during Indian weddings brought a touch of tradition and beauty to the occasion.

The garland is part of the Varmala ceremony, in which the couple exchange garlands after the mother-of-the-bride’s blessing. So it’s lovely that the pair were able to at least maintain this element of the marriage.

With so much death and anxiety surrounding Indians at the moment, it’s inspiring to see this happier news. We pray that the groom recovers quickly from the virus and that he and his wife spend many years together in wedded bliss. Hopefully they’ll look back at their unusual wedding photos and see them as a true testimony of their love.
