Maundy Thursday

Italy and the Vatican prepare for another historic Holy Week, marked by restrictions because of Covid.
As Italy and the Vatican face ongoing restrictions under the weight of the latest wave of coronavirus, the Holy See announced the pope’s schedule for the Holy Week liturgies.
A small group of the faithful will be able to attend, but in accordance with the limited numbers set by the restrictions.
The Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday will be presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re. Pope Francis often celebrated this Mass at a prison; it has not been announced where he will celebrate it this year.
The Good Friday Way of the Cross meditations are being prepared by children and teens between the ages of 3 to 19.

The words are “simple and immediate,” said a statement from the Vatican press office, but are “fully aware of the meaning of discrimination and humiliation, as well as justice and solidarity …

“The words and colors give back the complexity of a world made of small and big crosses but also of trust and hope for the future,” the statement notes, “for those who witness their parents fighting, for those without strength to defend their friends in difficulty, for those who fail at tests in school, for those who experience loneliness amid these times of the Covid-19 pandemic, and those who are able to see the face of Jesus in the stranger, among others.”

Last year, the Stations were prepared by prisoners, their families, and those involved in prison ministry.
