Sunday’s Gospel is John12: 20-33
The measure of Jesus’ love is love without measure
In the Gospel of the 5th Sunday of Lent Jesus foretells his death on the cross. He speaks about the Father and about those who would follow him, hence about each of us. The Gospel shows the love of Jesus, who loved us to the end. He died and is risen so that we may have life. This is why the cross is a sign of love.

– Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.
This is the Gospel in a nutshell. If a person dies to oneself and sacrifices oneself for others, he or she bears much fruit, which lasts forever. Such a person experiences love, joy, and peace of heart against all odds. It is possible with Jesus. And me? To what extent do I live for others? For whom?
–Whoever serves me must follow me.
In antiquity, there were peripatetic schools. Students followed their teachers, walked literally in their footsteps, and did what their masters did. Jesus invites us to follow him not in what is external. If we are ready to love and stand up for God in today’s world, we must also be ready for difficulties or perhaps suffering. Let’s learn from Jesus to go to victory through the cross.
Today
A religious sister once said that she wants to do only meaningful things because she is in the second half of her life. No matter at which moment of our life we are, if we wish to do what is most important and to follow Jesus, we should ask ourselves this question before making any decision: What would Jesus do were he in my place?
