ST. JOSEPH RELIGIOUS ORDERS

Oblates of St. Joseph

John Burger - published on 03/15/21

Priests, sisters and brothers quietly go about God's work, as the saint himself did.

To celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph, this Friday, March 19, in a special Year of St. Joseph, we’ve found a number of religious communities that have been named for, inspired by or are dedicated to St. Joseph.

True to the spirit of St. Joseph, these religious communities emulate a number of qualities of the Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Foster Father of Jesus. In the spirit of his hidden life, the Contemplatives of St. Joseph, for example, follow a contemplative life. The Oblates of St. Joseph are involved in guiding young people. Calling to mind St. Joseph’s need to take the Holy Family into Egypt for their safety, the Sisters of St. Joseph have a particular interest in the plight of immigrants.

St. Joseph is honored in many sung and unsung ways.

Forgive us if our slideshow overlooks any other religious communities who have a special devotion to St. Joseph. But that’s one of the things Catholics cherish about the saint. He didn’t expect to be the center of attention and didn’t mind being overlooked. Like these priests, sisters and brothers who quietly go about the work of evangelization, St. Joseph merely did what God was asking of him, to care for the Holy Family as father, provider and guide.
