Jack Terzian broke into the music scene in late 2020, with the release of “Beautiful Day,” his first single. The work is a laid-back rap that captures the essence of Catholic optimism by affirming all that Terzian is thankful for. The song highlights the simple yet beautiful aspects of daily life.
The first thing that struck us about Terzian’s style was its immense evangelical potential. Terzian packages distinctly Catholic lyrics in a trendy secular pop tune that casually presents Catholic ideals to audiences. “Beautiful Day” is a call to step away from the modern technological distractions and enjoy the day as God created it.
In an interview with Catholic Philly, Terzian said:
“Anyone in the secular market could hear my music and think, ‘What is that guy doing, what’s going on in his life?’” he said. “Hopefully you can see the origin and source of that living water that flows through me.”
Terzian went on to explain that he always felt called to be a musician, but he was rather directionless in his early attempts. After harsh criticism in grade school, he stopped performing and managed a rapper friend instead. In college, he gave up this job to forge his own musical path, one that started in church.
He started playing guitar as a music minister, but the more time he spent in church, the more he felt a change in himself. He said:
“I started going to the chapel not fully understanding or knowing about adoration, even though I’d been raised Catholic,” said Terzian. “But I knew I found peace there, along with freedom and forgiveness.” Over time, he said, “God slowly but surely changed the desires of my heart.”
A mission realized
With a spiritual mission firmly in mind, Terzian has begun independently producing his own brand of Catholic music. He has already released his second single, “Lock and Key,” for which he commissioned a work of art based on the Sacred Heart. The work maintains Terzian’s acoustic rap style, which keeps the atmosphere comfortable and approachable.
Along with his contributions to the Catholic art scene, Terzian is also an active member of Mission Youth Philly, a young adult apostolate of the Legionaries of Christ. He also helps coordinate the Philadelphia chapter of the Frassati Society.
Above all, Terzian wishes to spread the love of Christ and the importance of the Eucharist. In regards to this, he commented:
“The nourishment it provides opens the floodgates to knowledge and peace,” he said. “It is the food that gives us energy in this world to live in the fullness of our existence.”
Terzian was recently tapped to perform at the Independence Mall rally that followed the Philadelphia March for Life on January 23.
