On a divisive Election Day, Catholics turned to Eucharistic Adoration

Hundreds of parishes across the country opened their doors for prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.

Over the past few months, millions of Catholics have turned to prayer in response to the cultural chaos, coronavirus, and political upheaval.

Election Day brought out thousands of worshippers with Eucharistic Adoration held in 683 churches, under the title, “Novena for Our Nation.”

Organized in just a couple of weeks, the call to Adoration was put together by Unite Our Nation, the same organization that urged Eucharistic Processions through cities and towns.

The Novena for Our Nation called for an end to civil unrest, for the protection of life, and for unity in our land. Some parishes held 24 hour Adoration while others offered 3-4 hours.

In Greenlawn NY, Adoration included rosary and an Hour of Reparation. The prayer vigil continued through the night and all day on through Wednesday, Nov. 4.

At Holy Family Church in Fond du Lac, WI, three hours of Adoration was attended by several dozen people, ending with Benediction.

St. Anne’s Church in Garden City, NY also had three Adoration hours that included Fr. Cody praying the Patriotic Rosary and offering Benediction with about 40 people in attendance. “There’s so much chaos going on. We needed the peace, and we needed to plead for God’s mercy and intervention,” said Lois McNally, participant.

In Waterbury, CT. St. Patrick’s Church and Oratory offered a full day of Adoration “for our nation and for Holy Mother Church,” with about 50 parishioners participating.

Fr. Peltzer at All Saints Church in Minneapolis offered a morning of Adoration, “asking God to move the hearts of the voters.”

In Purceville, VA, St. Francis DeSales church held Adoration for “healing and hope,” with about 100 people coming out for prayers and hymns before the Monstrance. Parishioner Diane Waller described the holy experience. “The church was darkened except for a light shining on the Monstrance, and the hymns were beautiful. We put our prayers for our country in the hands of God and our Blessed Mother.”

At Our Lady of Victory in Floral Park, NY the call to Adoration after the 8:30 am Mass was this invitation: “Come and pray before the Blessed Sacrament for the wisdom of the Holy Spirit in the election of our national and state leadership!”
