McGivney Festival Health and Safety Protocols

CHURCH

ORLANDO SIERRA | AFP

Knights of Columbus - published on 10/22/20

Attendees are asked to cooperate with the following COVID-19 health and safety measures.

Compliance with the following regulations will ensure a healthy and safe pilgrimage as we gather to honor the beatification of Father Michael J. McGivney.

  1. A variety of events will mark this celebration, including digital, outdoor, and indoor events to accommodate pilgrims.
  2. Pilgrims attending the St. Mary’s McGivney Festival are asked to register in advance here.
  3. St. Mary’s parish will follow the policies of the Archdiocese of Hartford and the State of Connecticut. Out-of-state pilgrims must be in compliance with state law.
  4. Pilgrims must wear masks at all times, both indoors and outdoors.
  5. Temperatures will be checked as pilgrims enter the Church.
  6. Be attentive to keeping a six foot social distance between yourself and other pilgrims, indoors and outdoors.
  7. Regular hand-washing and use of hand sanitizers is expected.
  8. Pilgrims who manifest any symptoms of the coronavirus are required to stay home.
  9. The Church will be sanitized throughout the day.
  10. St. Mary’s indoor capacity will be closely monitored to comply with diocesan and state guidelines.

PILGRIM PARKING

We are directing all pilgrims to park at the large Yale parking complex located at the intersection of Whitney Avenue and Humphrey Street. There is a stop light at that intersection. As you turn into the complex, there are large lots on both your left and your right. Pilgrims are able to park free-of-charge in either of those lots. Between the two there are over 350 available parking spaces. The only spaces that cannot be used are the (very few) that have individual signs reserving those specific spaces for either ZipCars or for specific Yale individuals or departments. In addition, we also have been granted free access to the Pierson-Sage Garage, which is at the north end of the outdoor parking lots. (“Right” as you enter the parking complex.) That garage has an additional 200+ spaces. This parking complex is about a half-mile from the church; for most individuals, it should take approximately 15 minutes to walk to the church.
Pilgrims are free to seek street parking around the church as well. Please know that many of the parking meters on the church’s portion of Hillhouse will be “bagged” and unavailable for parking, and all day on Saturday Hillhouse Avenue will be entirely blocked off to all vehicle traffic by the New Haven Police Department. Yale Lot 41 (the lot at the end of Hillhouse) will also be unavailable throughout the weekend. Remember that the city of New Haven enforces parking meters Monday through Saturday until 9:00 PM.
Pilgrims with limited mobility should arrange to have someone drop them off at the church, after which their driver should proceed to the Yale lots as directed above. Any questions about parking may be referred to mcgivneyfestivalevents@gmail.com.
