Although the books of the Bible were penned thousands of years ago, they are full of wise words for modern-day issues. If we turn to Scripture when we’re in a tricky situation, it can give us the guidance and reassurance that helps us see the light … and perhaps the solution to a particular woe, such as that age-old problem of finding a job.

Young people starting out in life might not know what path to take, while others might be panicking to find any job to make sure they can provide food and a home for their loved ones. Being jobless is scary. We can lose our identity, and end up depressed, feeling useless, and afraid of what’s to come.

These feelings are all natural, but it’s important to never give up hope. And this is demonstrated so many times in the Bible, with Luke beseeching us to ask for God’s help: “And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Luke 11:9) While John echoes this with “Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.” (John 16:24).

And if that isn’t enough to persuade you to turn to our Heavenly Father in prayer, look at the beautiful words from the Book of Psalms, 37:3-6:

Trust in the LORD and do good
that you may dwell in the land and live secure.
Find your delight in the LORD
who will give you your heart’s desire.
Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will act
And make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
your justice like noonday.
