Leo was “condemned to death.” He had just 6 months left to live—but he managed to stretch them out to 6 years instead. Faith, a positive outlook, courage, and tenacity are the qualities that allowed him to continue on, joyfully and without fear. As his motto said, “FULL SPEED AHEAD!” (“AVANTI TUTTA!”) He challenged himself and his own limitations, running the New York Marathon twice. He multiplied his life by giving it to others: In particular, he founded the “Avanti tutta!” association, to improve the lives of people suffering from cancer. “I carried my cross with dignity, and paradoxically, I have to give thanks to God, because it seems that I’ve truly understood the meaning of life, which is that you only live once, and you should live with love in your heart
