Simple marriage advice from Blessed Luigi and Maria Quattrocchi

LUIGI AND MARIA QUATTROCCHI

PD

Philip Kosloski - published on 02/13/19 - updated on 11/24/23

Luigi and Maria were an ordinary couple with an extraordinary faith in God. They are celebrated each November 25.

Often we will turn to our parents or grandparents for marriage advice. Why not turn to our “grandparents” in the faith? There are now many married saints who have been beatified or canonized in the Catholic Church and they are great sources of inspiration.

Blessed Luigi and Maria Quattrocchi are a prefect example of a saintly couple who can teach us a lot about living married life united to Jesus Christ. It wasn’t always easy, and Luigi initially wasn’t on board, but together they cultivated a beautiful marriage rooted firmly in their Catholic faith.

Here are a few marriage tips that we can learn from their life.

1
Stay faithful to Christ, even if your spouse isn’t interested in religion

Luigi was not committed to his Catholic faith before getting married to Maria. However, it didn’t take long for Maria’s deep and authentic faith to rub off on her husband.

2
Try to out-do each other in virtue

Maria and Luigi made their spiritual lives a competition between themselves, seeing who could be holier!

3
Begin each day in prayer

Daily Mass became part of their routine and Luigi would often hold off on saying “Good Morning,” until after Mass. The day didn’t begin until they prayed together.

4
Try not to fight in front of your children

Maria and Luigi, while they aimed to be saints, weren’t always perfect. When they had disagreements, they tried to keep their arguments away from their children. They didn’t want the kids to be negatively impacted by their disagreements, which in any case, they tried to quickly resolve.

5
Turn to God during trials

Their life together was not without crosses and trials. For example, during one difficult pregnancy, Maria was told she had a chance of dying. Yet, the two turned to God during this dark time and thanked him when both mother and child were protected during childbirth.
