The life of Christ to be topic of new History Channel miniseries

J-P Mauro - published on 02/04/19

The script was written with the help of faith leaders and biblical scholars.

Cinematic adaptations of the Bible have been major market draws in recent decades. From Mel Gibson’s box-office success The Passion of the Christ to the History Channel’s hit miniseries, The Bible, scripture-themed shows have been critically acclaimed and drawn the faithful to watch in droves.

Now, the History Channel is back with a new biblically inspired series, Jesus: His Life, which will follow the life of Christ from the perspective of the people around him. The miniseries will have eight installments and each one will look at Christ through the eyes of one of eight prominent New Testament figures: Joseph, John the Baptist, Mary, Caiaphas, Judas Iscariot, Peter, Pontius Pilate, and Mary Magdalene.

The scripted drama of each episode will be interspersed with interviews with prominent religious and historical experts, who will give insight into the historical context behind some of the best-known Gospel passages. The narrative will travel with Christ through his birth, life, ministry, his sacrifice, and his resurrection.

Mary Donahue, SVP, Programming and Development for History Channel, said in a statement:

Jesus: His Life brings together some of the world’s top scholars, historians and faith leaders from diverse ideological and theological perspectives to tell the story of Jesus in a new way. Viewers will see and experience the life of Jesus as never before, through this powerful and thought-provoking portrait of a man who is one of the most influential people in human history.”

Jesus: His Life is set to begin on Monday, March 25, at 8 p.m. EST on the History Channel. Two episodes will air back-to-back weekly for four weeks. This means the series is perfectly timed to kick off around the middle of Lent, and it will conclude on the Monday of Holy Week, just before Easter.
