Elementary school teacher Rachel Uretsky-Pratt received a lot of sweet Christmas gifts from her students — chocolates, jewelry, and handmade cards — but none of them could top the plastic baggie of Lucky Charms marshmallows.
In a post on Facebook, Uretsky-Pratt explained the sweet gift: “You see, 100 percent of my school is on free/reduced lunch. They also get free breakfast at school every day of the school week. This kiddo wanted to get my something so badly, but had nothing to give.” So she opened her free breakfast cereal and removed each individual marshmallow from her Lucky Charms to give to her teacher.
Uretsky-Pratt went on to say: “Be grateful for what you have, and what others give you. It all truly comes from the deepest parts of their hearts.”
In an update to the original post, the teacher shared her gratitude that her story of one child’s kindness has touched so many hearts. Some have even been moved to donate to her school upon hearing the story. She said she is incredibly proud of her students and she hopes that everyone who hears the story feels inspired to be a kinder person.
She wrote, “My wish for all of you is to remember this kind and simple gesture of love from one of my school babies and carry it with you and continue to spread love and kindness to everyone you meet — not just during this holiday season.”
