Who knows what he'll give the needy if the Red Sox win the World Series
“Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.” – Luke 6:38

After losing one game to the Houston Astros during the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have been plowing through the playoffs, gaining the lead 2-0 over the LA Dodgers in the World Series. With a stellar regular season record of 108-54, just about every baseball fan knew that this team was destined for the World Series, but there’s one player who’s still finding time for charity.

As Mookie Betts left the field, after winning the second game of the World Series, he barely celebrated before reminding his team that they need two more wins to claim the title. Betts is always focused on the game, in fact this season he is a shoo-in for the American League MVP, ending the regular season with a .346 batting average, 32 home runs, 80 RBIs, and 30 stolen bases.

But when Betts does well on the field, he feels a greater desire to do good off the field. Shortly after their win, Wednesday night, Betts brought a hot meal to Boston’s homeless, outside of Boston Public Library. WEEI host and former Red Sox utilityman Lou Merloni spread the story through a tweet, with an attached image:

Most people who win games on the grandest MLB stage are more concerned with getting to the back room to spray their teammates with bottles of bubbly. Betts, however, immediately thinks of how he can share his own joy with the city.

This is not the first time that Betts has fed the homeless after a win. Earlier this post-season, after the Red Sox triumphed over the New York Yankees in round one, Betts credited his two home-runs with having given a homeless man a pizza the night before. Catcher Blake Swihart has instructed Betts to continue to give food away.

As the Red Sox prepare for Game 3 of what may be only a 4 game World Series, we can’t help but wonder what Betts will do for Boston’s needy if they become the World Champions.
