In the midst of the crazy holiday season, we often come across reminders to be grateful for the gifts in our lives, and, though we might make a mental note to do this, the practice of gratitude can easily be put on the back-burner in favor of more pressing tasks. But one mother has found an excellent way to combat this — the “thankful pumpkin.”
Every year, author Amy Latta and her family write everything they are thankful for on a large pumpkin and use it as an autumn decoration for their home. By making gratitude into a concrete activity, the practice creates space for un-rushed recollection of our many blessings and the decoration serves as a reminder throughout the holiday season.

The idea was such a hit with her own family that Latta decided to share the idea on her blog.
“Literally, anyone can do it,” she said. “And I was excited to think about other families taking time to focus on gratitude.”
The simple project can be done with kids of any age and families of any size. Now, she has families all over the world decorating thankful pumpkins.
