Susie Martin, a meteorologist and director of operations for Praedictix, recently went to work wearing the cutest accessory: her one-year-old baby. In a bid to encourage baby-wearing among other parents, she presented the weather with her son firmly strapped to her back.
The multi-tasking mom shared with Good Morning America: “I wanted to promote this wonderful tool that’s helped me as a mom and the bonding experience between mother and son.” While she explained that this also allowed her to comfort her son while going about her professional career, we can’t help but feel it brings the busy mom some comfort too, knowing her baby is in safe hands.
Martin decided to wear her baby to work as part of International Babywearing Week that took place on in early October. With 1.2 million views of the professional explaining upcoming storms with her bundle sound asleep, the video has garnered lots of support from both moms and dads. While many admired Martin for her professionalism in going about her work while mothering her child, others felt her message was a creative way in illustrating the importance of the parent-child bond.
In fact Dr. Jason Homme, an assistant professor of pediatrics at Mayo Clinic, also pointed out on Good Morning America that essential bonding occurs in the early weeks but also in the later months, just as in the case of the meteorologist with her one-year-old. Of course we’re not all able to strap our babies to our backs and take them off to work, but as one commenter on Facebook posted: “I love that it shows that women can be mothers and do their jobs without ‘being distracted.'”
In true meteorological lingo, Praedictix tweeted how they were “blown away” by the positive responses to the video, and were impressed by the level of kindness shown to their employee.
