Just a few days ago Michael Bublé gave an interveiw to Daily Mail in which he sounded like he was ready to call it quits. The story, which we covered at Aleteia, was picked up by most major news outlets and before long, thousands of his fans were lamenting his exit on social media. Now, thankfully, his publicist has made it clear that it was all a misunderstanding.

Over the last two years the Bublé family has shared the painful journey and ultimate victory of their son’s battle with liver cancer. During that time Michael took a hiatus from the stage and he and his wife, Argentinian actress Luisana Lopilato, added to their family with their new baby girl, Vida.

With such important things happening in his home life, it was easy to understand how Michael might feel like the focus should be there. However, his representative, Liz Rosenberg, has quickly come forward to clarify that this was all a misunderstanding and we have many years of Bublé’s easy melisma ahead of us:

“Michael Bublé has absolutely no plans to retire,” Rosenberg said. “I wasn’t sitting in on the interview but this must have been taken out of context. Perhaps as he discussed the different emotions he’s been through these last few years, that thought might have gone through his mind. “I assure you with a new album coming out, TV appearances, and a possible tour, he is not retiring.”

Insider suggests the confusion arose when, in the interview with Daily Mail, Bublé commented, “I don’t have the stomach for it any more, the celebrity narcissism.” He continued, “This is my last interview. I’m retiring.”

However, Michael just released the first single, “When I Fall In Love,” from his soon to release album Love. It seems unlikely that he would suddenly retire before the album comes out. Another reason he can’t walk away just yet is his fans.

Since Noah went into remission, Michael has been extending his gratitude to the scores of fans who offered prayers for the Bublé family. In an emotional Dublin press conference, he thanked his fans for their support through teary eyes.

One of the reasons he decided to make the album is “because I felt a debt of gratitude, deeper than I can explain, to the millions of people all over the world who prayed for us and showed us compassion. That gave me faith in humanity.”
