We live in an era where saving time is a prized value of our culture — it’s even become an entire industry. We have technological wonders — from computers to robots — that do many things for us; we read books on time management techniques, we use time management tools and software, and we eat at fast food restaurants or prepare “instant” meals and dishes so that we don’t waste long hours in the kitchen.
Yet, we often behave as if we didn’t know what to do with all these wonderfully saved minutes. We waste them mindlessly scrolling through social media on our smartphones, staring fruitlessly at the television, or in other activities that bring us closer neither to our loved ones nor to God.
Many saints and fathers of the Church have dealt with the topic of time over the centuries. It’s worth remembering their wisdom, which can help us put things in perspective; their reflections are “timelier” than ever!
