Pause for a few moments and pray this traditional evening prayer.

Since the very beginning of Christianity, there has been a tradition of praying both in the morning and in the evening. It is the best way to start the day and a perfect way to end it.

Prayer at the end of the day is also a great way to relieve stress, releasing your many cares into the hands of God. When the day is rough, God knows how to soothe our restless heart.

Below is a traditional evening prayer that has been handed down in the Catholic Church and reminds us to end the day in thanksgiving for what God has done in our lives, while at the same time asking for his forgiveness for when we failed him during the day. Lastly, the prayer puts us under the protection of the heavenly court and invites us to pray for others, especially those who have passed from this life to the next.

O my God, at the end of this day I thank you most heartily for all the graces I have received from you. I am sorry that I have not made a better use of them. I am sorry for all the sins I have committed against you. Forgive me, O my God, and graciously protect me this night. Blessed Virgin Mary, my dear heavenly mother, take me under your protection. St. Joseph, my dear guardian angel, and all you saints of God, pray for me. Sweet Jesus, have pity on all poor sinners, and save them from hell. Have mercy on the suffering souls in purgatory.
