Often we can feel uneasy or anxious when thinking about the future. There are so many possibilities and our thoughts can easily turn to all the horrible things that could happen in our lives.
This can leave us extremely anxious, worried about the future and what it could bring.
Jesus constantly reminds us in the Gospels that we shouldn’t give-in to these feelings and should always place our trust in God. Its not easy and that is why we should always pray to God whenever anxiety starts to overrun our lives.
St. Francis de Sales wrote a beautiful prayer for such cases. It is a prayer that seeks to calm our weary hearts, beckoning us to “be at peace.”
Do not look forward in fear to the changes and chances of this life;Rather, look to them with full confidence that, as they arise,God, to whom you belong will in His love enable you to profit by them.He has guided you thus far in life, and He will lead you safely through all trials;and when you cannot stand it, God will bury you in His arms.Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;the same everlasting Father who cares for you todaywill take care of you then and every day.He will either shield you from suffering,or will give you unfailing strength to bear it.Be at peace, then, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations. Amen.
