It’s not easy being generous. Often our natural inclination is to hoard everything we have, whether it be our possessions or time.
Yet, God challenges us to be generous as he is generous. It can be a difficult task to imitate God’s boundless heart, but it is possible through divine grace. With God’s help, anything is possible.
St. Ignatius Loyola understood this reality and composed his own prayer to increase the generosity of his own heart. Let us take this prayer as our own and ask God for help.
Lord, teach me to be generous.Teach me to serve you as you deserve;to give and not to count the cost;to fight and not to heed the wounds;to toil and not to seek for rest;to labor and not to ask for rewardsave that of knowing that I do your will.
