What happens when 16 nurses in the same hospital wing are all pregnant?

NURSES PREGNANT

The hospital responds to this unique coincidence with pickles, olives and a cute onesie!

It would be understandable if patients being treated in the intensive care unit at the Banner Desert Medical Center in Arizona might think there’s something in the water. With 16 of the ICU nurses all happening to be pregnant at the same time, the hospital is experiencing its very own baby boom.

The nurses only discovered the happy coincidence when they joined a Facebook group for pregnant hospital workers, with the babies due between this month and February next year. And the constant stream of support, both from their pregnant co-workers and their management teams, has really helped to enrich their pregnancy experience. As one nurse, Ashley Atkins, explained to KPHO-TV: “This isn’t an easy job to have when you’re pregnant and not feeling well all the time, so it’s nice to share stories and have that support.”

While planning the staff rotations in the months to come has been a bit of an operation in itself, the hospital is rallying around the expectant moms by making the work environment as “pregnancy friendly” as possible, according to CNN. Not only do the nurses have to be protected from potentially dangerous tasks, the cafeteria team also ensured that a request for pickles and olives — and all those typical cravings — was met the very next day. The hospital has also celebrated the future births by giving each of the ladies a cute onesie saying: “Relax … my mom is a Banner Nurse!”

We’re sure that as these nurses share the beauty of giving birth to their little bundles with each other, they’ll also continue to be a source of comfort and support for all patients they serve.
