People with mental illness experience the effects of that struggle every day. To help promote better understanding of mental health, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with Prince Harry, are speaking out about how untreated mental health problems affect individuals and society as a whole, and have launched a new campaign called Heads Together, in partnership with UK mental health charities.
After the royals opened up about their own struggles with mental health in the BBC documentary, Mind Over Marathon, the UK-based charity Mind reportedly experienced their record-breaking busiest day in 71 years — a surge they credited to the Duke and Duchess and Prince for paving the way. Other charities, as well, have seen a significant increase in traffic since the royals began their campaign.
The royals have chosen to use their publicity to host an important conversation that has implications for those who live with mental illness, their loved ones, and for the broader community. Hopefully, their decision to launch to campaign will remind many of the importance of discussing mental health and making support and treatment more widely available.
