5 Hidden messages in ‘The Incredibles 2’ for the whole family

THE INCREDIBLES

Disney Pixar

María Verónica Degwitz - published on 07/29/18

The new sequel to the popular Pixar superhero film contains some very timely messages about family life.

It’s a kids’ movie, with the typical superheroes plot. But The Incredibles 2 also portrays a family reality that might speak to you.

Family unity, thinking of each other, and the difference in familial roles … all of these topics are touched upon in this new film. Some of the most interesting ideas are …

In the family, everyone has an important role

No matter how many attempts Bob and Helen make to remove the children from the problems and obstacles they face, it’s the kids who save the day over and over again. Often, we want to take responsibility away from children and let them enjoy life all the time, but life teaches us, like it taught Bob and Helen, that we cannot keep them away from reality. If we give them the chance, they can show us that they are capable of very big things.

Together is always better

The strength of the family lies in its unity. The film shows that the Incredibles are stronger when they’re together and when they help each other. It is a great message to give to our children: whatever happens, your family will always be there for you, and you can always count on them to help you even in the most difficult moments of your life.

Fatherhood and motherhood are the work of heroes

When we see Bob trying to survive taking care of his three children, we realize that being a parent involves more effort and work than being a superhero. Even Edna Moda tells Bob in a masterful sentence: “Done right, fatherhood is a heroic act. Done right.”

True love takes sacrifice

In the film, we see how Bob takes care of the children so that Helen can go out to work as a superhero. This is a big sacrifice for him, because what she is doing was his dream, but he is able to sacrifice himself for Helen and for the good of his family, and he does it with dedication and joy. Doing so, he realizes the enormous value of Helen’s work in their home, and he forms a close bond of camaraderie with their children.

If we want to be happy, there are times when we have to sacrifice and give up certain things

But this change of plans, made by others and with love, will surely bring many good things to our family.

Beyond how funny and original this film can be, these hidden messages will give us a lot to talk about with our children. And it will strengthen in their minds the idea that the family is definitely the best place to grow.
