Beatified during Vatican II, will this youth be canonized during the synod?

NUNZIO SULPRIZIO

Paul VI saw 19-year-old Nunzio Sulprizio as a model for young people.

Blessed Nunzio Sulprizio was beatified by Pope Paul VI as the Church was in the midst of the Second Vatican Council. Now it looks possible that the young Italian, already considered a model for youth, will be canonized during the upcoming synod that will deal precisely with youth and vocational discernment.

The canonization date for Blessed Nunzio Sulprizio will be announced July 19 during a public consistory, the Holy See reported July 4.

Paul VI saw in the tragic story of this young man an example of how to accept illness.

Born in Italy in 1817 in the Abruzzo region, this young orphan was abused by his uncle. Injured and incurable, he was finally adopted by a very pious man who took care of him. The boy died in 1836, as a result of his injuries and diseases.

A miracle attributed to his intercession was recognized June 8.

After the recognition of a miracle obtained by the intercession of a blessed, there is only one stage left before canonization: the vote of the cardinals during a consistory. This step, which is just a formality, actually serves to announce the date and place of the canonization ceremony.

Pope Francis will canonize six other blesseds on October 14 during the synod, including Paul VI himself and Bishop Oscar Romero.

Nunzio Sulprizio could therefore be declared a saint at the same time.
