The Catholic Church in the United States owes a great deal of gratitude to the many founders of Catholicism in the New World. Dozens of heroic missionaries traveled the length and breadth of this country to create a strong foundation of the Gospel.
It wasn’t easy, but their many labors have born much fruit over the centuries and their examples of faith continue to inspire citizens of this land to infuse the culture with the Gospel message.
Below are several of these legendary founders (some of them are recognized as saints, and some are not) who remind us of the struggle inherent in spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ and the positive results that can come from it.
