When he saw a young child dangling from a fourth story balcony, 22-year-old Mamoudou Gassame jumped onto the side of the building without hesitation, climbing the four stories in just seconds to rescue the child.
Gassame has made more than a few headlines for his heroism and has been hailed as the “Spider-Man of Paris.” Now the French government is honoring Gassame, a Malian immigrant, with French citizenship.
In an act of true courage, Gassame risked his own life to help the small child, but he says the fear didn’t hit him until after he had rescued the child. “I felt afraid when I saved the child,” he said, reported by The Guardian. “[When] we went to the living room I started to shake. I could hardly stand up.”
It’s yet unclear why the child had been left unattended and an investigation is already underway. Whatever the reason, thankfully Gassame was ready for action.
You can watch footage of the rescue in the video above.
