St. John Bosco (often affectionally called Don Bosco), was an Italian priest who is most remembered for his contribution to education.
He noticed how poorly children were being treated at the beginning of the industrial revolution and the vast number of children who were forced to live on the streets.
Inspired by the challenging teachings of St. Francis de Sales, Bosco set out to create an education system based on charity and love, instead of fear and punishment. This was groundbreaking, and he proved to be ahead of his time.
Here are several rare photographs of Don Bosco, a priest with a truly joyful soul, ready to exercise charity in all that he did.
