In support of World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD)50 mothers and their children came together in a car pool karaoke lip sync video, singing along to Christina Perri’s award-winning song “A Thousand Years.” The moms are all part of a Facebook group made up of parents with children who have Down syndrome born in 2013 and 2014. Inspired by Singing Hands – a UK organization whose videos have helped many in the group to learn a sign language called Makaton, the moms wanted to come together to show the world “just how ordinary and fun life with the condition” is and they’re posting it with the hashtag #wouldntchangeathing.
World Down Syndrome Day is Wednesday, March 21, 2018 and its purpose is to raise awareness around the world of what Down syndrome is and the vital role people with Down syndrome play in our society. The day has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012 and the date — always on the 21st day of the 3rd month — is meant to highlight the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which is the cause of Down syndrome.
