CECILIA: Nick, tell us about your new song. What is the inspiration behind “Love Is Everlasting”?
I wrote this song about my grandfather who passed away. My grandparents lived in New York and we would travel up on Christmas from Texas every year to see them. All my extended family would meet and we would catch up. Those few days in December always stayed vivid in my memory. When I go there in my mind it reminds me of how much love really transcends time and distance. My ultimate goal is to make people look up and admire the transcendent beauty that can be experienced through music.
2) “Seems that I keep running from what’s keeping me alive” is a very touching line of your song. What does it really mean?
I think it’s so easy in our modern lives to get caught up in a shallow, casual existence. Kids especially my age are so scared to fall in love and share things deeply with others. I find myself doing this very often and I have to stop and remind myself that genuine human connection and expression of love is what is truly sustaining.
3) In just two weeks “Love Is Everlasting” registered more than 40,000 views on Facebook and 20,000 views on You Tube. How did you come up with the idea for the video?
It was very improvised. It was the only night in Nashville that snow was on the ground. I just finished the mix and called up my videographer. We had no idea what the plan was, we just let what was natural happen. It turned out incredible and we are so crazy excited it’s been well received.
4) At the beginning of your video, for some seconds, we see a rosary dangling from your pocket. Why this visual choice?
My Grandpa, especially towards the end of his life, would always pray for our family. He would sit in his rocking chair and say the Rosary every morning. For me, it represents a hope in a seemingly hopeless world. The shape of it alludes to an eternal cycle. When you put your full love and faith into what you believe, it returns to you and continues to grow full circle.
5) The song ends with a special dedication. Can you tell us more about it?
That would be a image of my Grandpa. This is the first single of a new chapter in my music career. It felt more than appropriate to lead with his memory.
6) What are you working on now?
My goal this year is to put out a single once a month. I have some big songs I’m really excited about finally getting out. I’ve been constantly writing, producing, and working on my sound. I want to grow my music alongside my fans and share my journey and struggles with them.
