On Sunday, with the help of two young people, Pope Francis registered for Panama’s World Youth Day, to be held January 2019.
“Registration opens today for World Youth Day, which will take place in Panama in January 2019. Right now, along with two young people, I too will register on the internet,” he said, after giving his reflection on the day’s readings and leading the midday Angelus.
After clicking the necessary buttons, the pope remarked, “There. I am now enrolled as a pilgrim to World Youth Day. I invite all young people around the world to live this event of grace and fraternity with faith and enthusiasm, either by going to Panama or by participating in their communities.”
World Youth Day will take place in Panama from 22-27 January 2019. Pilgrims can now register online here, just like the pope did.
When Francis announced the venue for the next WYD while at the Krakow event of 2016, he said: “I don’t know if I’m going to be in Panama, but I can tell you one thing: that Peter will be in Panama. And Peter is going to ask you if you talked with your grandparents if you talked with the elderly in order to remember, and if you had the courage and bravery to meet situations head on and in that way to sow seeds for the future. And you are going to have to answer to Peter. Right?”
