People take part in the “Boxmeerse Vaart,” an ancient procession that originated in the year 1400 in Boxmeer, Netherlands. Thousands of people attended the procession, which has been held every year on second Sunday after Whitsun (Pentecost). The tradition commemorates the time when a priest doubted the conversion of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. When blood spilled over the edge of the chalice and a drop of blood remained on the corporal (white linen), the priest immediately recognized his error. This corporal has been kept in a silver reliquary since that time and is brought out for the Boxmeer-Procession.
