When singer-songwriter Andy Grammer recently posted a picture on Instagram of himself lying on the ground with his five-month-old daughter, Louisiana, we got a big dose of cuteness. Of course, his baby daughter looked adorable lying on her daddy’s chest — there’s something so sweet about the father-daughter bond. What was really moving, however, was the location and the tender words that accompanied the photo.
Grammer had taken his daughter to visit the grave of his mother, Kathy, who was buried exactly nine years ago at the age of just 56. He shared: “I remember standing at this spot shell-shocked as we lowered her body into the ground. All I knew was I had lost my center, that there was a huge hole in my world and that it could never be filled.”
Although Louisiana K. Grammer never got to meet her grandmother, it’s wonderful to see that the singer wants his daughter to know just how important his mom was to him. He even stated: “We put the K in the middle of her name so she will always have you in the middle of her life.”
It reminds us that just because someone is no longer physically in our lives, it doesn’t mean they no longer play a significant role. In fact, Grammer listed his mom’s qualities that he hopes will be passed on to his daughter: “I hope she will have your playfulness, your spirit, your sense of justice, your love of chocolate, your faith, and your thirst for depth in life.”
The star’s mother died a year before he actually signed a record deal, so she never knew how successful he would become. Yet, Grammer is quick to point out his mother’s role in his success: “Little did I know having a mother on the other side can be pretty special too. I am not foolish enough to think that any of my success has been without the help of a badass mother pulling strings through the universe.” As us moms always try to be there for our kids, you never know!
The songster also gave us an important positive life lesson: “This life is beautiful, but it becomes even more beautiful when you are forced to face the fact that there is more to this life [than] this life.” And isn’t that what lots of us hold on to as we navigate life’s journey, with its many ups and downs?
Grammer ended his post with a very tender message: “Sending love to wherever you are my sweet mother.” Even if you’re not a fan of his music, you have to love a boy who openly shares his love for his mom for the whole world to see.
