Solidaridad en Marcha (Solidarity in Action) is the winner of the last Lampstand prize. The winning photograph depicts a scene of sharing the real meaning of Christmas.
Solidaridad en Marcha is a foundation sponsored by the Christian Life Movement. It works for the poorest and most needy populations of Latin America, especially in Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Costa Rica and Ecuador. Additionally, it seeks to form networks with similar organizations and through this effort is even reaching the Philippines.
Catalina Espinal Vargas took the winning photograph. It shows a moment of the “Christmas Is Jesus” campaign, which brought a message of love, joy and hope to low-income families, thanks to youth volunteers and businesses who sponsored the initiative. The campaign aimed to promote a spirit of solidarity with those who suffer, especially suffering children.
The photo was taken in Medellin, Colombia, where volunteers and kids played together, prayed the Christmas novena, and shared gifts and treats.
Each month throughout 2017, Aleteia awarded one charitable organization a cash prize of $515 (from Matthew 5:15) to support their work and highlight their good deeds through editorial and social media. Congratulations to all the winners.
