“This photo was taken 6 days into the Egyptian spring … police were attacking protesters sporadically … so when Muslims wanted to pray ‘asr (the third prayer of the day) they were worried the police would attack them. So protesters of the Christian faith offered to cordon them so that they pray in peace knowing they are being protected. As soon as I walked in Tahrir Square, I saw this sight and realized that the men cordoning them were Christian (Copts here always have a cross tattoo on their wrists).”
