The Canterbury Cathedral Girls’ Choir is the first all-girls choir to come out of the famous English cathedral. They were formed in 2014, but it wasn’t until December of 2017 that they released their first album, Christmas with the Canterbury Cathedral Girls’ Choir.
The album is full of Christmas classics such as “Silent Night” and “O Come All Ye Faithful,” as well as some lesser known tunes like “In the Bleak Midwinter,” and “All Is Still.” “Heaven Responds at Bethlehem” is a new song that was written for the girls by the Dean of Canterbury, the Reverend Dr. Robert Willis.
The album was recorded at the Canterbury Cathedral. The girls were accompanied by the Latvian Opera Orchestra, the Canterbury Cathedral Company of Change Ringers, and of course, the in-house organ at Canterbury Cathedral.
There are 25 members of this choir and they range in age from 12 to 18 years old. The girls have performed at numerous events of significance at the cathedral and regularly sing Evensong.
